GeneralAdding a crazy-complete, acoustic-focussed pedal to the Four Series, Zoom present the A1 multi-effect pedal. As well as acoustic guitars, this magic box can colour in the sound of other string instruments, including double basses and violins, and even wind instruments like trumpets, saxophones and harmonicas. Inside awaits a giant stack of more than eighty different effects, thirty-five of which are brand-new additions, each designed specifically for stringed, bowed and brass instruments. A maximum of five effects can be activated at once, so musicians can warp, mould and shape their own signature sound, and if you’re miked up with a power-hungry condenser microphone, you can simply hook it up to the included MAA-1 Mic Amp before patching it into the pedal.

The Zoom A1 Four: Fresh Sounds, Onboard Memory & Solid Backing

Once you’ve woven a few custom effect combos and settings, you can save them to one of the fifty onboard user patches to be called up later. Zoom have also provided some special features specifically designed for the instrument you’re plugging in, so acoustic guitarists can pack their sound with life thanks to the built-in IR technology; saxophonists can give their sound some real body using the SaxChorus; violinists can turn a single violin into an entire string-section at will; and harp players are granted access to an emulation of the iconic sound of a Green Bullet. Even if you’re not playing with a band, this pedal can back you up with one of the sixty-eight drum beats that come loaded in, or you could just engage the 30-second looper and create your own backing tracks from scratch.
